The President’s Message
Dear LACA Family,
Dear Friends and Supporters,
It
is
with
a
mix
of
sadness
and
gratitude
that
we
remember
our
founder,
Lillian
"Lil"
Trillo,
who
passed
away
at
the
age
of
94
on
May
11,
2023.
Lil
recounted
the
creation
of
LACA:
"The
Lord
gave me a match and told me to light the fuse. Then LACA took off like a rocket!"
In
honor
of
her
legacy,
we
are
committed
to
keeping
that
rocket
flying.
With
your
help
last
year, we accomplished many wonderful things for the poor in Latin America.
In
Mexico,
we
purchased
hospital
infusion
pumps
for
the
Tarahumara
Indians,
ensuring
safe
delivery
of
medicines
at
their
medical
clinic.
Special
thanks
to
Fr.
Miguel
who
coordinated
with
me to get this done.

After
assisting
with
rebuilding
the

over
the
past
years,
we
continue
to
support
the
day-to-day
operations
at
Nina

The

a

and nurturing environment for the children of working poor families in San Salvador.

We
now
dedicate
the

to
helping
young
people
better
themselves
and
their
communities
through
education.
In
2022,
LACA
supported
students
in
El
Salvador, Honduras, Mexico and Panama.
Donors
and
LACA
members
have
also
targeted
specific
students
and
projects
in
need
that
are
near
and
dear
to
their
hearts.
For
example,
they
have
supported
dental
surgery
for
a
young
girl in El Salvador and provided aid to migrants in Piedras Negras on the U.S.-Mexico border.
Though
as
a
501(c)3
non-profit
organization
we
are
non-denominational,
we
nethertheless
put
our
trust
in
a
few
people
in
Latin
America
to
help
carry
out
our
projects
given
our
distance.
We
are
deeply
grateful
and
indebted
to
our
contacts
among
the
Franciscan
Sisters

Latin

who
serve
as
the

for
many
LACA
programs. Thank you, Sr. Isabel, Sr. Marlene, Sr. Carmen, Sr. Deisy, and Sr. Maria Esther.
In
memory
of
Lillian's
unwavering
spirit
and
dedication,
we
continue
her
mission
to
serve
those in need. Thank you for your ongoing support.

The Founder’s Message
LACA’s mission, since the very beginning, has always been focused toward the poorest of the
poor. Initially, we began our efforts in Honduras, the most poverty-stricken country of Latin
America. Later we spread to six other countries: Haiti, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Mexico,
Guatemala, and Panama. During my term as founder and board president, we financed 35
water systems; funded homes for the poor; educated promising, poor youngsters; and took
medical teams to the medically under served. LACA also supported an empowerment of
women program in Panama and funded a daycare center in the poor area of Ciudad Delgado
in El Salvador.
My vision is that LACA continues to focus its efforts on the poorest and less fortunate of Latin
America.
Yours,
Lillian R. Trillo, Founder and President Emerita (October 16, 1928 - May 11, 2023).
